Trauma and Change with Stoke on Trent City Council. “It’s profoundly moving & educational."

Trauma and Change with Stoke-on-Trent City Council

A massive thank you to Darren, Jonathan and Sam from Expert Citizens Insight Academy for continuing to support my endeavours across Stoke and beyond. I recently delivered the brand-new Trauma and Change course to staff from the council, primarily staff from Adult Social Care, this also included family support, housing officers and various other professionals from across the local authority.

The course was created in partnership with various people from across North Staffordshire. People with lived experience of addiction, homelessness, domestic violence, the armed forces support services, the list is endless, so I won’t bang on about it here. As some of you will no doubt be aware, I have constantly sang the praises of Ellie, Brent, Charlotte and Ryan who took time to be interviewed, filmed and recorded as part of the training. Their input has been invaluable and incalculable.

The feedback that we have been getting is uniformly excellent, with several learners stating they were clearly moved by the stories of people with multiple and complex needs and their post traumatic growth. Both the Insight Academy and Stoke on Trent City Council, (especially inspirational people like Gina Grimes) have seen for themselves the importance of trauma informed approaches. Plus, the need for people to tell their stories in a safe and nurturing environment, to share the injustices and also share the good news and the good work that is going on in the city.

Onward, ever onward.

We ARE making a positive difference.

Jonathan has had the unenviable task of collating the feedback for the course, which you can see below…
