Motivational Interviewing with Staffordshire County Council, March 2024, “Thank you for an amazing session!"

Earlier this week I delivered my extremely popular Motivational Interviewing (MI) course, ‘Inspiring Change Behaviour.’ The 2024 version of the course now includes new films, new activities and a brand-new active listening task that went down a storm with the assembled learners. As always, a huge thank you to the fourteen learners from across various children and family services at Staffordshire County Council. From psychologists to social workers, from family support workers to home educators, it was a superb two-day journey through the ins and outs of MI.

The group were so motivated and clearly there to learn from each other and of course from me. I have a small sample of the feedback comments, all 100% positive, take a look at this first example:

“I thoroughly enjoyed this training. It’s helped me to introduce a new way of thinking, I know we do use some of the techniques, but it allowed us to open our minds to different approaches, when it comes to certain circumstances. I will absolutely use this going forward and enjoy telling my colleague out the training and if they haven’t been on then they need to. Steven was brilliant and very informative and it’s the best approach to online training course. I will be using the six step change, I thought this was brilliant.”

I do love it when people take the time to write constructive feedback. I also love it when people realise just how much work I put into my sessions. The following piece of feedback came from an exception member of the class, someone who has overcome many obstacles in her own life and now lives in post-traumatic growth. She shared her story with me and we are going to make a film later in the year. A new star emerges:

“Thank you for an amazing session! The theory was combined with practice which is useful and helps to build up necessary skills straight ahead. The couch followed the progress of each member of training which helps you to feel confident. Worksheets were very helpful, and the resources can be further used in the professional role. During the training there were used a lot of different methods: work in groups, work in pairs, video, discussion, questionary, practical minutes which made the session lively and productive.”

I’ll leave you with two more pieces of feedback; both of which highlight my engagement with my learners and the fact that I am passionate about the subject and about inspiring people from across Staffordshire.

“Thank you so much Steven - the training was fantastic. It is clear that you are passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of your service users. Motivational interviewing is something that I am adding to my toolbox. It was great to listen to the case studies and how you were able to support the service users to independently create their own solutions. I look forward to the next training session. I love that the training was interactive and engaged your brain.”

“Amazing training, so informative and interactive. Steven really engaged with us all to ensure we understood the tasks etc. I feel this is something that will be so useful for me in my everyday practice and think this would be something that is useful for all. Thank you again Steven!”
