"Steven’s approach to training in this area is so dynamic and expressive." Respect and Inclusion

Greetings one and all,

The last week has been a supremely entertaining one, replete with my brand new ‘Respect and Inclusion’ course. I have thoroughly enjoyed researching, creating, and delivering the training session and feedback from the assembled learners has been uniformly excellent. I’m very proud of the fact I create a safe and constructive environment to discuss some difficult topics.

I have interviewed several people from across Staffordshire, people with lived experience, people who have experienced prejudice and discrimination. People who have embraced a new way of living. My training films have gone down a storm and a really need to thank all of the people who agreed to be interviewed.

On Wednesday I met the troops from Staffordshire County Council. My very own council and a wonderfully supportive council at that. You can always tell you are training staff from Staffordshire, they’re on time, they’re ready and they want to learn. Learning has been embedded across the organisation and the whole ethos is one of learning and self-discovery.

Here is a smattering of the 100% positive feedback comments:

“Steven’s training is always very informative, interesting and interactive. It was really interesting and thought provoking – plain language used so easy to understand.”

“I definitely feel that this training has made more opened minded when it comes to differences. It has provided guidance regarding equality and discrimination. I will take the learning of managing emotions better and being more mindful of others. The training was very interactive and interesting. Thank you.”

“Excellent training facilitated very well by Steven. Training delivered in a way to allow you to reflect and discuss. Excellent resources which aided the learning. Subjects covered I will use within my role and share with my colleagues.”

Lynne

“Absolutely fantastic day of training, bright interactive knowledgeable, fun and relaxed.... The only thing missing is that I didn’t get to know who will be leaving me a mysterious Valentines card next year! Thank you for a wonderful day it took my mind off work for a few hours.”

Anthony

“The training was interactive and it allowed me to explore the impact of my values and beliefs on others. It was informative in that there was opportunity for discussion that enabled me to see how others view the issues around respect and inclusion. There was a variety of how the information was disseminated that include use of videos, scenarios and the legislation that underpins the anti-discriminatory practice. The coordinator was humorous and lively, I enjoyed it.”

Ann

“Comprehensive approach to Respect and Inclusion from Steven, made me reflect on my interactions with all individuals, this is not just about professional interaction and communication, more importantly, it is about enabling the individuals who sit inside the “system” who are unable to access the services they require to help them have a better life which is what we should be striving to achieve – better outcomes for those who seek support and help.

Steven is very knowledgeable and brings experience to light with his pithy examples. The objectives of the training were clearly expressed from the outset which I understood.

Equality and diversity embedded throughout, with tasks set to make any practitioner think and reflect on how we work with individuals who need support, whether that be short term or longer term. Respect and inclusion is a paramount principle which should be done with as opposed to done to, we are all trying to find our way.

My learning has improved and developed. Steven’s approach to training in in this area is so dynamic and expressive. It pulls you in and (should) makes a better practitioner who can reflect on and embed the learning into the daily life of any social care practitioner who wants to enable others, build resilience and have good outcomes for the individuals he/she works with.”

Nikki

“Thank you for the training which I enjoyed immensely, you have a wonderful gift of sharing your knowledge with others in an uncompromising way that should “test” professionals to learn and develop and importantly, to immerse in their own practice. Of course, I include myself in this.”

“This was very thought-provoking training. From the outset Steven ensured that all participants were involved in the whole training, which can be a challenge with Teams training. Steven’s style of presenting was informative and engaging. I liked the interactive nature of the day, with clear exercises that stimulated thinking and discussion, and the small groups allowed for open discussion. I do think that I will be taking away learning which will be beneficial in my working and private life. I will try to use DESC in situations that arise. I will also be encouraging team members to attend if this training becomes available again. Many thanks.”
