Greetings one and all,
This week I had the pleasure of launching my new Learning Disability training course with Expert Citizens, Insight Academy. Darren, Sam and Jonathan asked me to create a training programme that looked at the issues surrounding people with learning disabilities across Stoke-on-Trent. Professionals from across various organisations attended the training, including; Stoke on Trent City Council, CC housing, The NHS, Citizens Advice, etc. I particularly enjoyed sharing the interviews I undertook when creating the training. I met some truly wonderful people. A big thank you to all who took part. The learners were particularly engaged when listening to Ross and Lisa. True inspirations. There were times when they taken aback by the way in which people with learning disabilities had been treated. Physical assaults, name calling, bullying etc. It’s 2023 and I thought those days would be behind us soon enough, alas this doesn’t appear to be the case. It was also heartening to hear how they had also had supportive experiences, especially the people who utilised St John’s in Abbey Hulton and Newcastle College.
Professionals and residents of Stoke are so fortunate to have the learning and development opportunities on offer from the Insight Academy. We have created these courses specifically for the target audience, real lived experience, informing services and practice.
