Inspiring Change "All employees working with families need to do this course!” Cheshire East Council

Greetings one and all,

And he’s back! ‘Inspiring Change!’ Oh yes, finally back in the classroom at Cheshire East Council. A huge thank you to Claire Williamson for championing my approach and asking for me to return to the council to devise and deliver a brand new 2023 version of the course to staff who are themselves undergoing something of a change.

We’ve been online for such a long time that I forgot just how rewarding being with the troops can be. Exhausting and exhilarating! I created a bespoke Motivational Interviewing (MI) course just for the council. This included my meeting with people from across Cheshire East, listening to their stories, creating training films that reflected their tales. Embedding that lived experience into every iota of the training.

The assembled learners were clearly inspired to learn and threw themselves into each of the activities, replete with all new films, interviews and activities.

To say that it went down rather well would be an understatement. A huge thank you to all who attended and especially at this time of great change for the troops at Cheshire East. I was especially taken with the way in which some of the learners openly reflected on their practice and highlighted both their areas for improvement and their strengths as wonderful listeners.

Now on with the feedback:

“The training has really allowed me to reflect on my practice and it has also given me lots of new ways to relate with clients. My caseload can often feel hard work and frustrating, plus hopeless. I now feel that I can change my way of working and questioning style to allow my clients to explore their issues and feelings more openly. Relationships are the key to our success. I also really liked the real-life case studies and examples. They really helped me to visualise how to use motivational interviewing. Thank you so much 😊”
