Yesterday, I had the pleasure of training various members of staff from across Staffordshire County Council. My always popular, ‘Empathy Fatigue’ course has had a 2026 top to toe revamp and the learners certainly enjoyed the session. As you can see from the attached photograph, that's a suitably relaxed Steven. How did I get there? Well... Lots of ways really. I felt (way back in 2018) that people needed to learn about the perils of Empathy Fatigue and decided to go about creating a course that described what it is (and what it feels like) and how we can do something about it.
From:
“Transformational training, informative, practical and relatable. Steven, you have really made me think hard about my practice. I loved the structure of the training today and how immersive it all was. Thank you.”
To:
“Steven’s training is always interactive, I always feel like I have learned a lot from Steven. I now feel equipped to deal with empathy fatigue and prevent it from happening. Thank you. 😊”
Learners thoroughly enjoy the training day. I love it when people realise how much time and effort I have put into creating the training. This fully immersive training day allows people to address their own stress levels and to look at how they can continue to work within an ever more stressful arena. Using various techniques and models, we explore what we mean by ‘empathy fatigue’ rather than burnout. And most importantly – what we can do about it.
I’m off to Devon later in the year to deliver this course and then I’m bounding up to Tyne and Wear to deliver it up there too. I shall be living on a train at this rate.
Here is what the rest of the learners had to say about the training:
“Reflective, engaging and enjoyable training. Thank you Steven! I always enjoy your training sessions! Thank you for the fidget ball to play with during the session too!”
“Great training – as always with Steven, I have learned a lot about self-care and to be more reflective about my practice and the stresses that will come from a job like this in social care.”
“I REALLY enjoyed this empathy fatigue training from Steven. I will definitely use the strategies that Steven taught us to be more motivated and thoughtful in my responses to people.”
“Informative, funny and supportive! 😊 Steven created a lovely atmosphere where we could talk honestly about out fatigue and how we can combat it. Great training.”
“This training was both informative and ENTERTAINING! A very enjoyable, interesting training session from an excellent tutor. Thank you. 😊”
“Steven included insights from his life and the life of other people who have lived through empathy fatigue. This made the training really interesting and engaging.”
“I really enjoyed today’s training. Steven – this was the best training that I have attended in a very long time!”
“I found the task on getting to know oneself something that we all need to do more of. I feel that I have learnt to make some of my own choices and not be swayed by the whims of others. I definitely feel that I’m on my way to continuing to work at a stressful job but this time with strategies to alleviate that stress.”
“Steven is a fantastic trainer. His training is always thoughtful, engaging and informative with lots of humour. I would highly recommend that everyone book on his sessions.”
