“I would definitely recommend this training." Compulsive Hoarding training with the Insight Academy

Greetings one and all,

I’m back, this time I’m highlighting my Compulsive Hoarding training course, ‘trapped and drowning in my things.’ Last week, I delivered the training for Stoke on Trent’s Expert Citizen’s Insight Academy. As always – I need to highlight the sterling work that all at the academy are doing in up-skilling staff from across various agencies in North Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent. Wonderful stuff, plus lest we forget – lunch is provided folks, so put that sandwich box away, you won’t be needing it.

As always, the course was received very well indeed and feedback was 100% positive. A huge thank you to all of the people across Stoke on Trent and beyond who allowed me into their homes. These residents didn’t know me, they were used to being judged and criticized and then along comes this stranger saying, “hello, I’d like to help you and your situation.” Without their input I would have not been able to create such a warmly regarded course.

The aim of the session is to set out a successful approach to identifying and responding to hoarding behaviour, ensuring that each hoarding case can be dealt with in an effective and co-ordinated way.

Objectives: By the end of the session you will have

  1. Described the characteristics of somebody with hoarding compulsion

  2. Identified how to recognise hoarding behaviour

  3. Demonstrated how to successfully use the clutter rating scale

  4. Recognised the difficulty in discussing hoarding with customers (the elephant in the room)

  5. Discussed fire hazards, fire safety and safe egress

  6. Explored the enforcement actions available to you.

And here are the feedback comments:
