"I loved how you expressed the learning in a realistic and approachable manner." Trauma and Change

Greetings one and all,

Welcome back, it’s been a very busy period here at Talbot Towers, I’ve been researching new ways of working, creating new learning and development resources which of course meant quite a bit of laminating, play-doh and Velcro-ing. The fun never ends, I’m all about hitting the various learning styles. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoy the creation, especially when it means my interviewing people with lived experience and creating training around their stories.

I recently had the pleasure of creating the brand-new ‘Making the Connection’ Trauma and Change half day course for Stoke on Trent City Council. This time the training is aimed at everyone who works at the council, from front facing staff, to parks and recreation, youth development and housing, the list is endless. The public health team have been instrumental in spreading the message, ensuring that Stoke Council embraces a psychologically informed environment for all of its residents. It goes a long way to demonstrate how the council is determined to embed a trauma informed way of working.

The course has been created via the Expert Citizens Insight Academy, ensuring that the lived experience of customers is at the front and centre of the training experience. Stoke is so fortunate to have the Expert Citizens.

I launched the course alongside staff from Fenton Manor Sports Complex. Some of the staff members told me that they had been a tad nervous about the course and also wondered if it was going to be ‘death by PowerPoint’ oh how wrong could they have been…? This is Steven Talbot we are talking about here.

So on with the feedback comments:
