Greetings one and all,
This week saw my return to the ‘coal face’ after a couple of weeks of recharging and relaxing. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting managers from across various departments of Birmingham City Council. As some of you know, I deliver the final session in BCC’s ‘Future Leaders’ programme and it has been an exceptionally rewarding experience. I’ve called the session, ‘Essential Collaboration’ as quite often people like to work as a team and forget that there’s ‘cooperating’ and there’s ‘collaborating.’ Feedback has been 100% positive with some especially heart-warming comments from the staff.
Birmingham is investing in the future and equipping its staff with the skills to continue to strive for better, and most importantly ensuring they improve the outcomes for the residents of Birmingham.

The exercises were my greatest challenge for the day – not because I struggled with the content but because we did them all in groups or pairs which forced me to slow down and work collaboratively on something my brain wanted to treat as an academic exercise and rattle through at speed. Clever application in a course on collaborative working – I see what you did there!
Of all the future leader courses I think this is the one where I will remember the trainer as well as the content, and I hope to have opportunity to attend further training with Steven in future.”
