Greetings one and all,

Welcome back to the Steven Talbot Consultancy blog post.  Last week I had the distinct pleasure of training an array of professionals from across Stoke-on-Trent.  This was, (of course) courtesy of the Expert Citizens Insight Academy.  I’ve been singing their praises for a long time now.  Long may we benefit from their inspirational approach to learning and development.

The first course that I’d like to highlight is the newly revamped Empathy Fatigue 2025.  From comments like, “Steven is just fantastic!” to “Steven is an amazing facilitator and trainer” to “This training has taken place at a good time for me and has helped me to reflect and re-think of ways to manage my emotions/fatigue. Thank you Steven.”

I know that I’m onto a winner with this very popular course.  Feedback has been 100% positive with lots of lovely comments about how the learners felt recharged and ‘ready for battle!’  Well, not quite, but you get the picture.  I thought I’d share the aim and objectives of the course as I’m often asked, ‘what does the course entail?’  It is (as always with my courses) a fully practical course in which we address the practicalities of day-to-day work in the ever so hectic social care / support world.  Emphasis is on how to stop getting to burnout and recognising when you may be experiencing empathy fatigue.

Aim: By the completion of the course all learners will have explored how to work compassionately with both colleagues and customers.

1.      Objectives: By the end of the session, you will have:

2.      Described what is meant by empathy fatigue and burnout.

3.      Explored the different reactions of people living with empathy fatigue and / or burnout.

4.      Determined how to continue to work within a stressful work environment.

5.      Described what is meant by empathy and rational compassion.

6.      Described how to prioritise and disregard things outside the circles of influence or concern.

7.      Explained the five types of procrastination.

8.      Explored how to stop defensiveness and build purpose building behaviours.

9.      Recognised the need for self-regulation and being open and honest about stresses.
