Greetings one and all,
Here I am, finally getting around to posting a blog post. I have been so unbelievably busy, it’s rather fantastic and also pretty exhausting, so this weekend is rest and relaxation and spaghetti bolognaise – which is my go-to for when I’m cream crackered. Next week sees my grand return to Cheshire East Council and then to Shropshire Council, so I definitely need to be recharged.
Below you will find the feedback from my new course that I created for Birmingham City Council. ‘This time I’ll get it right…’- Effective Factual Recording. To some, this course could be seen as booooooooooorring. That is until they attend the course. A full day on effective case notes? Has Steven gone mad…? Well, I interviewed a wealth of people from across the Midlands, some of whom had some pretty hard-hitting things to say about ‘facts’ that had been written about them. In some cases, these facts were absolutely opinion, and dangerous opinions at that. I really took my time in creating the new training films and the learners really responded to them.
Being the reflector that I am, after this first session I went away and considered some changes as I think I packed the training with LOTS of activities, some of which we raced through to get to the next one. I’ve decided to yank a couple of them out and merge two tasks together. How will Effective Factual mark 2.0 be received…? All will be revealed…
Collated feedback
1. “Absolutely excellent down to earth training. With a little Je ne sais quoi. FABULOUS!”
2. “Absolutely brilliant, Steve made the training informative, interactive and funny, I thought the course was going to be really dry. The films were spot on.”
3. “Steven is an engaging and knowledgeable trainer, with experience within the field. Useful exercises, many of which made me think about what was appropriate recording (or not). Good case studies, relevant to my job role.”
4. “Second time that I have had training with Steven and once again it was a pleasure. His full knowledge of the subject is a given, but he teaches in a friendly and humorous way and strikes a rapport from the off. Look forward to any future training with him that may become available.”
5. “Excellent training session. Despite working with the council for many years it is a great refresher. Really enjoyed the delivery and was engaged throughout and had a productive day. It would be good if all new recruits were sent on this course as a part of their induction!”
6. “Useful to see the good and bad approaches to factual recording.”
7. “I thoroughly enjoyed the learning, thank you so much Stephen. I will definitely look at producing better case notes, I just need more of that precious thing called time!:)”
8. “Steven was easy to understand and explained topics thoroughly. Task were broken into small group sessions which was easier to work in.”
9. “I thoroughly enjoyed the course and the ‘break out’ room exercises. I found the pace to be good, not too fast or slow as there was time to absorb the learning. Although I had previous knowledge of some of the course content, there was some learning new to me. For example I became aware of the 3 different listening styles; literal listener, emotional listener and meaning listener.”
10. “Thank you for today Steven, informative and enjoyable. Smashin.’”
11. “It was informative, but for me to much group work, but I liked the discussions after each task, and overly thankful for no role-play. The presentation was good, flowing, light-hearted (not boring). PowerPoint and handouts helpful and useful. Break time were just about right.”
