Hello all,

Last week I had the pleasure of delivering my course, ‘Trauma and Change’ to an array of learners from across Stoke on Trent.  This course was commissioned by Expert Citizens Insight Academy. What an asset we have in Stoke and long may it continue.

A huge thank you to all of the wonderful learners who attended.  This time, I was training:

Social workers,

Family support workers,

Housing officers and

Environmental crime officers from Stoke on Trent City Council,

Plus, really inspirational staff from North Staffs Mind. 

As is often the way, some of the learners were a tad wary of a course about TRAUMA.  They often arrive believing the day is going to be a real slog.  “Oh Lordy this is going to be hard work!” Well, we’ll have none of that! 

My course demonstrates the importance of post traumatic growth.

·         What is it?  

·         What does it look like?

·         How do we support people to get to it? 

Each of the films that I made for the course highlight people who have had traumatic experiences in their life AND grown through it.  They have become the people they were always supposed to be.  Some of the people that I interviewed believed that professionals saw them as ‘deserving of suffering.’  They felt judged and discriminated against and this was more than just a feeling; this was a fact. 

Every single person who we interact with has their own story.  They all deserve unconditional positive regard.  Everyone needs a ‘hello’ and a ‘how are you?’ Plus, ‘what can we do to support you?’ 

So, what did the learners make of the course? First of all, everyone agreed that the course deserved a ten out of ten! Then they all agreed that they were ‘very satisfied’ with the course that I’ve created and the interactive nature of the day.
