Compulsive Hoarding Training September 2025

Greetings faithful readers,

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of training an array of professionals from across Stoke on Trent, (mainly Stoke on Trent City Council – my old stomping ground) and it was a WONDERFUL day!  The course was ‘Trapped and Drowning in My Things’ Compulsive Hoarding; commissioned by Expert Citizens Insight Academy.  This full day’s training is ram-packed with hands-on learning aids to support people in working alongside people who may have a compulsion to hoard.  As always, the feedback was lovely and it was great to meet so many super-charged, motivated learners from across the city.

On with the comments:

“We have a number of cases in our team where hoarding is a concern. This training has given a good insight into affective ways of supporting people where there are concerns in relation to this and effective ways to work with them.”

“The training has helped me develop a clearer understanding of compulsive hoarding, particularly the distinction between clutter and hoarding, and the underlying psychological and social factors that contribute to the behaviour. I feel more confident in identifying potential risks associated with hoarding, such as fire safety, safeguarding, and health concerns, and in approaching these situations with greater sensitivity and empathy. I also feel more equipped to use practical strategies when engaging with individuals and to work in partnership with other professionals and agencies to provide support.”
