Effective Factual Recording with Adult Social Care "Very informative and thought provoking.” Sept 24, Stoke on Trent City Council and Insight Academy

“Training was very insightful and engaging. There was a clear delivery of expectations on what the council expects in our recording. it also allows for reflection on how service users might feel when they read what we have written down during our engagement with them. Overall, an excellent learning experience.”

New course alert!  Yes, last week saw the launch of my Adult Social Care specific ‘Effective Factual Recording’ course.  I spent quite a lengthy period creating the course, which entailed my interviewing residents of Stoke and Staffordshire (and beyond) along with a slew of professionals. Several of my interviewees were shocked when they finally got to see what had been written about them.  Obviously, in some cases the notes were very evidence based and person-centred, however in other cases, this clearly was not the case…

The training films (as always) were a real talking point, and Debbie’s monologue about her stresses and strains within social care hit home with the assembled audience. She was constantly being told to prioritise, but when she had over forty people to see in a week, she couldn’t see the wood for the trees.  Her effective note taking was the first thing to go out of the window.  The voice of the client was most certainly not being heard.

As always, a massive thank you to everyone who took part in the interviews and my wonderful actors who in some cases took the part of the residents and told their stories.  The learners were pleased to see the continuing misadventures of Thomasina, Joan and Monica, so aptly played by Michelle, Gwyn and Heather. Plus, the ever so effusive, Sasha as played by the simply wonderful Sarah Miller. Academy Award worthy, surely!?

Here is a smattering of feedback comments, as you can see, people were clearly engaged and enjoyed the course:
