BAC O'Connor Centre - Motivational Interviewing Training, Feb 2025, “The best training I’ve had to date, in fact in my entire working career!"
Well, now THAT was something else! I recently delivered two days of my Inspiring Change Behaviour - Motivational Interviewing (MI) training and I have never felt so elated! I would like to take the time during this blog post to salute the staff and workers at the BAC O’Connor Centre in Burton on Trent. Talk about committed and upbeat. We laughed, we learned and we certainly practised our skills. Two days with some of the warmest, most compassionate people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working alongside. I salute all of them. I could feel the love and sense of justice in the room.
Oh, and a big shout out to Lisa for giving me a lift all the way there and back. I’m sure I bored her to tears with my love of science fiction… We had so much in common!
The course that I delivered for the troops was created bespoke for them. All new films, resources and a fair bit of hands-on learning. As we all know, it is NEVER death by PowerPoint with Steven. I used several interviews and case studies, each of them reflecting drug or alcohol misuse, trauma and terrible treatment from services. The films demonstrated how by using MI people embraced post-traumatic growth and lived positive lives in recovery.
The whole organisation is a testament to lived experience and the power of recovery. I feel like I made some new friends today.
