"Absolutely five stars!” Motivational Interviewing Training with Staffordshire County Council, Feb 2025
Another blinding Motivational Interviewing (MI) training session with a wonderful cohort of learners from across Staffordshire County Council. The class were clearly motivated to learn and it was heartening to hear that they were all looking forward to the training as they had, ‘Heard such good things about you Steven!’ Now, you can’t say fairer than that, now, can you?
The 2025 version of the course which is aimed at people working directly with children, young people and families has had a bit of a revamp. New films, new activities and yes, now even more interactive. I’ve removed some of the group work and whittled it down to working in pairs. I’ve found that the learners enjoy this very much, especially as they are practising their MI skills, all the while building on what they have learned and continually adding to it. A bit of cyclical learning can go a long way in embedding skills and making the learning easy to recall and implement. The final task on day one really cements how much they have learned in just one day.
Emma stated that she found the training, “Very good, in fact, I learned a lot!” The legendary Dave added, “It was excellent training, very informative and interactive. Steven gets you thinking and rethinking how you work with families in a motivational and an inspiring way.” Farai stated, “This was really useful and insightful training. I enjoyed the training and will incorporate what I have learned into my practice. Steven was brilliant and delivered the session really well. Thank you.” Meanwhile, Cheryl had this to add, “Amazing training Steven! It was fun and educational and I learned so much 😊.” Yes, she even gave me a smiley face to cheer up my day. Jodi wrote, “I really enjoyed the training and the style of delivery, I feel that I have learned a great deal.” And Ellie, who was simply superb, drew the short straw and ended up working with ‘teacher’ for most of the day during the activities wrote, “Brilliant training! Informative and well delivered by Steven. A lovely group, lovely venue and facilities. This course needs to be offered as a refresher every year. Absolutely five stars!”
Every single learner was a joy. I really feel like Staffordshire puts learning and continuous development at the heart of everything that they do. It really has been a wonderful experience. More next week!
