"Absolutely brilliant." Effective Factual Recording with Birmingham City Council, July 2023

Blimey, can it really be August already? I’m looking at my summer break, it is tantalisingly close, not quite there yet though, one more week and then it’s rest, relaxation, plenty of hardback books to read, country houses to visit (yes, I’m officially middle aged and I love it) and walks in the countryside.
Meanwhile, yesterday I delivered the always popular Effective Factual Recording session to Birmingham City Council. To say that the troops are loving the training would be an understatement. It’s very telling that some of the learners arrive on Zoom dreading what they perceive to be a very boring affair, and then… Well, then they get their bespoke, to the point, fully interactive training course that hits all of the aim and objectives I was asked to hit. A hit? A most palpable hit.
I think more than anything the learners appreciate the hard work that I’ve put into creating the course.
Here is a smattering of the feedback comments:
“Training was absolutely brilliant, and could not find any fault in the way the training was delivered. Group work/Interaction was good on all levels. It also gave me a chance to Interact with others from different Departments within the City Council... Well done Steven.”
“The training was very informative and gave me tips on how to improve my communication and note making skills, it showed the importance of being factual and precise when making notes on the system. I also enjoyed the environment of the training as it also supported me in steps with getting over my phobia of public speaking and being on camera. It was also great to meet other colleagues from different teams which I never has the pleasure of meeting before, it was awesome to put faces to name of people I have interactions with.”
“Thank you for providing an awesome training session, I thoroughly enjoyed the training.”
“Another brilliant session. I wasn’t really looking forward to it but was easily drawn into group tasks. The day passed very quickly. The subject matter was really well taught giving plenty of examples and food for thought. I now want to bring forward the training sessions for my remaining staff as December is far too long to wait.”
“The session was informative and well presented. It is also resourceful and the team work was great.”
“Thank you Steven for another informative session... much appreciated.”
“I really enjoyed the training and found it very easy to concentrate and engage. The best training I have had. I found it very informative and positive. I loved that at the end we had the meditation as this is so important when dealing with difficult situations and stress levels. Thank you so much for the training, I was so happy I attended to help me with my work.”
“Thoroughly enjoyed the training session, very informative, very engaging, Steven is very knowledgeable, articulate and approachable, and I also enjoyed it which makes a difference when your undertaking training.”
“I found the whole session informative, inclusive, enjoyable, immersive and refreshing. Somehow Steven was able to make you feel as though you were engaged in a face-to-face session and not via Zoom. It provided a much-needed refresher on how to view our responses and approach from a customers’ perspective as it is sometimes easy to lose sight of that, albeit unintentionally. The group discussions I was involved in were all positive and it was good to meet new colleagues from other areas of the Service. Most importantly it reinforced and refreshed my knowledge on effective recording especially as I have recently trained 6 new members of staff on their role and have tried to ensure that they understand the importance of recording what was said, agreed and promised. Thank you Steven, I hope to participate in another of your sessions very soon.”
“Training was excellent as always – all service areas should be offered this training. I would definitely be updating Northgate in a timelier manner. I thought that the Important/Not Important and Urgent /Non-Urgent was useful and will be putting this into practice. It gave a good insight into prioritizing and what it looks like. The interaction and tasks are informative and enables you to understand. Overall, an excellent and beneficial course.”
“Really enjoyed the training. Well explained in easy way. Thank you Steven.”
“Really enjoyed the training. Very interesting and made me realise I made more assumptions than I realised. I enjoyed all the different activities and was very thought provoking. Stephen is very personable and it was a fun group! Thank you Stephen.”
