Compulsive Hoarding Training 2020 with Staffordshire County Council

Hello faithful followers of my blog,

Here we are in 2020 and it’s February already! How did that happen? This year (so far) I’ve delivered; ‘Inspiring Change’ – Motivational Interviewing, ‘Lost’ – recognising and responding to loneliness and of course the extremely popular ‘Trapped and Drowning in My Things’ working with hoarding compulsion.

I recently trained some of the troops from Staffordshire County Council, all of whom were very impressed with my newly revamped hoarding course. I’ve included the aim and objectives of the course below, and remember if you wish to book my services, I’ll create some bespoke short films just for you! My Staffs County Council learners were horrified by the utterly dreadful ‘Greg’ in my new hoarding film, ‘Joan and her support worker…’ Just as well the dynamic and inspirational staff from the council are on hand to ensure that people like Joan get the support they need.

Aim: To set out a successful approach to identifying and responding to hoarding behaviour, ensuring that each hoarding case can be dealt with in an effective and co-ordinated way.

Objectives: By the end of the one day’s training session you will have

  1. Described the characteristics of somebody with hoarding compulsion

  2. Identified how to recognise hoarding behaviour

  3. Demonstrated how to successfully use the clutter rating scale

  4. Explored ambivalence, intervention, sustain talk, procrastination and support measures

  5. Recognised the difficulty in discussing hoarding with customers (the elephant in the room)

  6. Discussed fire hazards, fire safety and safe egress

  7. Explored the enforcement actions available to you.

Here is the feedback:
